Which remaster or stream cut should I play?

The question every streaming library hides
Apps often list the same album title under several catalog rows. One may be an early CD transfer, another a loudness-war remaster, another a hi-res anniversary cut. Tracklists match; your speakers hear the difference in compression, midrange glare, and bass bloom.

A simple pick order
Prefer a verified group with a preferred-stream flag when one exists. If notes mention heavy loudness or collapsed dynamics, try an earlier or alternate cut before you blame your gear. Hi-Res tags help when the master is honest — they do not rescue a smashed remaster.
Confirm with a probe track that stresses the facet you care about (bass slam, vocal midrange, cymbal air), then keep that edition as your reference for Upgrade Paths.
